After a decade of delivering projects in Victoria, it’s wonderful to finally put down roots and establish an office in Melbourne. We’ve rekindled lots of existing relationships, and are already making new friends across the state, helping clients with our unique blend of science, strategy and storytelling.
Having a physical office has been a long time coming. For a while, the business community in Victoria has been a source of inspiration and leadership. This is part of the opportunity that led us to open up here. Now that we’re on the ground, it’s easy to get excited about the momentum we’re seeing created at the government level. Given our interest in climate change, circular economy, and sustainable infrastructure, a few of the highlights are:
- The Climate Change Act 2017, which puts Victoria squarely on a path to be net zero by 2050, and requires the state government to set five-yearly greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets. There’s little doubt that the Act will be a catalyst for accelerated action in both the public and private sector.
- The Recycling Victoria framework and 10-year action plan, which has sparked a flurry of new circular programs and the creation of the Circular Economy Business Innovation Centre (CEBIC). There’s so much potential for Victoria to be the beating heart of Australia’s circular economy transition.
- And of course there’s Infrastructure, which continues to be in the spotlight. The Victorian Government is putting an ever-growing focus on sustainability in big projects such as the improvements to Melbourne Airport Rail, the Suburban Rail Loop and Geelong Fast Rail. With sustainability now an embedded part of the sector in the state, there’s little doubt that infrastructure can be at the forefront of a green recovery from the COVID crisis.
We’ve only been in Melbourne for a few months, and already the momentum we’ve seen is flowing through into our team.
What started with two key team members – Ken, our Director of Operations, and Viv, our Head of Sustainability Delivery – is soon to be five. Specialists in circular economy and sustainability strategy and sustainable infrastructure will be joining our team. And there are no signs of anything slowing down anytime soon!
It’s an exciting time for Edge, sustainability, and our new team in Victoria.
If you’d like to discuss further, get in touch with Ken at our Melbourne office.
